Cellulose Acetate Membranes: Fouling Types and Antifouling Strategies—A Brief Review

نویسندگان

چکیده

Cellulose acetate (CA) is a semisynthetic, biodegradable polymer. Due to its characteristics, CA has several applications, including water membranes, filament-forming matrices, biomedical nanocomposites, household tools, and photographic films. This review deals with topics related the which are prepared using different techniques, such as phase inversion technique. membranes considered very important since they can be used microfiltration (MF), ultrafiltration (UF), nanofiltration (NF), reverse osmosis (RO) forward (FO) membranes. Membrane fouling results from accumulation of materials that membrane rejects on surface or in membrane’s pores, lowering flux rejection rates. There various forms fouling, for instance, organic, inorganic, particulate biofouling. In this review, strategies antifouling discussed summarized into four main techniques: feed solution pretreatment, cleaning surface, modification, applied either nanoparticles, polymer reactions, grafting, topography, coating.

Cellulose Acetate Nanofiltration Membranes for Cadmium Remediation

In this work, cellulose acetate (CA) nanofiltration (NF) membranes were prepared via non-solvent phase inversion technique (NIPS). Polymer concentration was varied from 22 to 25 wt% in order to study its effect on the membrane properties. The fabricated membranes were characterized in terms of morphological analysis using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), contact angle, water content, water p...

Studies of Electrospun Cellulose Acetate Nanofibrous Membranes

The objective of this work was to study the feasibility of preparing cellulose acetate (CA) nanofibrous membranes by electrospinning with single solvent and their potential applying as affinity membrane. CA solutions in dichloromethane (DCM), formic acid, acetic acid and trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) were electrospun into nonwoven fiber membranes, respectively. The scanning electron microscope (SE...

Fouling and antifouling: some basic aspects

In the marine environment any solid, exposed undefended surface will become fouled. Similarly, fouling may effect numerous species which are able to tolerate a certain degree of epibiosis. In contrast, many others actively maintain t h e ~ r body surface clean of epibionts ('antifouling'). This paper illustrates aspects of the epibiosis/antifouling complex and discusses the omnipresence of foul...

The staining reaction of these preparations could be observed as far as a 1:16 dilution of the antiserum. These results suggest that a-amylase may be located on the cell surfaces where the antibody molecules were accessible, although there is no information...

Dissolution control of Mg by cellulose acetate-polyelectrolyte membranes.

Cellulose acetate (CA)-based membranes are used for Mg dissolution control: the permeability of the membrane is adjusted by additions of the polyelectrolyte, poly(N,N-dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate) (PDMAEMA). Spin-coated films were characterized with FT-IR, and once exposed to an aqueous solution the film distends and starts acting as a membrane which controls the flow of ions and H2 gas. Ele...
